The Vicious Cycle of the Herd Mentality

I don’t know which irks me more: LISTEN-ing to Sharifah Zohra Jabeen or listening to Namewee mocking Sharifah Zohra Jabeen.

The former has proven that good education does not beget brains whereas the latter is all class crass. If Jabeen cuckooed into the realms of the animal kingdom then in my opinion Namewee is merely riding on the coattails of others. A parody at its best exudes wit and articulation; it confronts sensitivities…always at someone else’s expense.

Respect is earned and it goes both ways. How about showing some respect for Jyoti Singh Pandey, the Indian rape victim? She was a woman. Sharifah Zohra Jabeen, uncouth as she is, is a woman. K.S. Bawani is a woman. I am a woman.

Surely there are better analogies than outraged modesties and the female anatomy.

The elation is bittersweet for those who accuse the students of having a herd mentality if they are the very same herd who are simultaneously laughing at this ‘parody’ without understanding its content. How ironic.

So, do we blame education for our inability to think for ourselves?
